Beyond Construction: Engaging with Culture and Society

Since establishing the FG Next task force, we have spent several years clarifying our direction—moving step by step from internal dialogue to experimentation. The journey has not been fast, but it has been steady. In recent years, we have begun to see change taking shape—not only within our organization, but also gradually extending into the wider community.

In some ways, this shift is also reflected in the types of recognition we have received. In the past, we were primarily associated with architecture and engineering. More recently, our work has been acknowledged in areas related to culture and social communication. These recognitions are a natural outcome of putting the FG Next philosophy into practice.

Our Construction Waste Upcycling Project received the ESG for Culture Impact Award – Industry Advancement Award, presented by the Taiwan Creative Content Agency. This award recognizes how companies collaborate with cultural and creative sectors to create new possibilities within existing business models. For us, this recognition reflects years of collaboration with designers, craftspeople, and artists—transforming construction waste not simply through recycling, but through art and design into new forms of value. It represents not only environmental responsibility, but also the circulation and sharing of resources between industry and culture.

Two initiatives that grew out of the Construction Waste Upcycling Project—the Material Flow: Regenerative Landscape Project and the Tile Recycling Project—were also recognized at The Taipei Golden Eagle Microfilm Festival, receiving the Platinum and Silver Awards for Sustainable Microfilm in consecutive years. As more people begin to understand and discuss what corporate sustainability means, sustainability moves beyond engineering methods and becomes something that can be seen, shared, and discussed.

In Taiwan, there is no shortage of talent and creativity. Yet working alone rarely leads to lasting impact. We bring resources and platforms; creators bring perspectives and expertise. When both sides choose to collaborate, we create space for each other to grow. For us, this is not simply about supporting cultural industries—it is about rediscovering new possibilities through partnership. For creators, it allows their work to reach broader audiences and new contexts.

These awards are both encouragement and a reminder. When we are willing to step beyond our traditional boundaries and walk alongside people from culture, design, and other fields, change begins to happen—gradually, within our organization and across society as a whole.
