The first step is to collect construction waste. We led our partner META Design on a site visit to better understand the construction site operations and explore reusable materials. On October 12, 2020, we visited the Taipei Dome construction site
As a large public construction project, the Taipei Dome site holds many unique recyclable materials, one of which is the titanium plate used for the "shell" of the structure. Due to the high cost of titanium, it is rarely used in residential buildings, but it is a key material for the exterior of the Taipei Dome. The site collected the leftover titanium plates after they were cut, including large irregular pieces and narrow edge scraps. In the following phases, titanium plates became a highly promising decorative material.
In addition, the Taipei Dome construction site also featured many unique items, such as A-frame scaffolding and steel reinforcement cages, which were repurposed as special materials for the creation in project 1.0.
